Christian Schools Australia (CSA) has chosen Instructure’s Canvas as its preferred online Learning Management System (LMS) for member schools that want to implement a technology platform to aid teaching. Canvas was selected as the preferred solution after extensive side-by-side evaluation of a number of leading LMS platforms. The testing was based on meeting the needs of students and teachers, while providing an unparalleled ease of use for all.
Schools that implement the Canvas LMS through the deal with CSA can adopt a more blended and open approach to teaching. Educators can use cloud-based technology for activities such as setting and grading homework, collaborative group work and experiential teaching via videos and audio assets.
CSA was attracted to Canvas because it wanted to enable teachers at member schools to improve the learning experience by giving them access to easy-to-use technology. Instructure’s Canvas was chosen due to its open source platform, and commitment to integrating with other technologies through its education app centre. This allows teachers to use web technology from YouTube to WordPress, and Dropbox to Lecture Capture in their lesson planning and teaching.
Stephen O’Doherty, CEO at Christian Schools Australia said: “Our members wanted technology that was safe for students and teachers to use, and just works. It was important to choose a solution that is as intuitive for people with limited technical ability, as those that are highly IT-literate. Canvas allows teachers at our schools the freedom to integrate technology as much or as little as is useful.”
O’Doherty, continued: “Teachers are very keen to integrate everyday web tools into their teaching and learning, blending the traditional classroom with the best the new technologies. Canvas is a very exciting product, rapidly attracting global attention for its ease of use and open architecture. It supports and enables teaching, without technology getting in the way.”
Julian Ridden, open education specialist at Instructure Australia said: “The role of IT managers and CIOs in schools is now about empowering teachers and students in today’s digital world, whether that means providing hardware, software or training. Christian Schools Australia truly understands this, and its commitment to open learning showcases what education technology such as Canvas can help educators achieve.”
CSA has entered a partnership arrangement with Instructure, the company behind Canvas, which will bring immediate benefits for CSA members, with access to exclusive and significant discounted pricing. The CSA partnership with Instructure involves CSA schools who adopt, or are already on, the Canvas platform.
