August 19, 2010 -The Brothers Mario and Sonic have left indelible marks on the free PC game world. Mario Bros. Super hero has been running and jumping in 2D since the 1980’s, when he debuted on the popular Nintendo platform. Sonic the Hedgehog blasted onto the Sega scene in 1991 as a faster-than-sound rolling hedgehog. With millions of free flash game players at stake, both game stars have announced they’ll face off in a winner-takes-all match.
The match will be held at http://Dash.fm, home of the free PC flash game. Dash.fm’s downloadable flash game toolbar features over 1,500 classic games, including Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hedgehog, classic Space Invaders, original Pacman and one-click access to Zynga Poker, Farmville, Yoville, Mafia Wars, Café World, Fishville and Petville. Fans can view classic Mario and Sonic videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/DashDotFM
“Sonic the Hedgehog is a punk” says Mario. “Sure he can ball himself up and bounce around at the speed of sound, but his skills are untested. Against-a-me he stands-a-no chance.” “Mario is old school”, says Sonic. “The hat, the bad moustache, it’s just embarrassing. Players want to see some action, not some pudgy guy wheezing around the course.”
The Mario and Sonic showdown was in some ways unavoidable, as Mario’s #1 position has been constantly challenged by Sonic. While classic games like Pacman, Tetris, Asteroids and Space Invaders have been happy to share the gaming spotlight, Mario and Sonic have refused to rest until one clear winner emerges. They say the only solution is a face-to-face match. Strangely, both game heroes have ignored newcomer Farmville by Zynga Games – a rapidly rising star and, some say, emblematic of the future of games.
“These guys have been going at it for years”, says Pacman. “This showdown was inevitable. I’m just glad they’re doing it over at Dash.fm. I love their games”. Tetris refused to comment, as it wasn’t authorized to comment on games not involving blocks. Farm Boy from Farmville observed “I wasn’t even born when those guys started so I really don’t get it. Hey, do you want some turnips?”.
The question of what game will decide the championship is still open, and Mario Bros. Super Facebook fans are encouraged to add their suggestions.
“I look forward to remaining #1”, said Mario. “Bring it on, see you at Dash.fm”, countered Sonic.
